President’s outgoing speech 2011 AGM
Welcome all to the 2011 AGM
This is my final talk for the year and firstly thanks to the committee for their great assistance during the year especially bob drenan whose tireless efforts during the year are not be underestimated taken on the secretaries position at the last moment. Treasurers Heather again thrown in to the position and to her credit has performed in the highest order and to Bev as senior vice president who filled in while I was away thanks as i new things would continue to be run well
To the rest of the committee members thanks also to other members who organised trips, meeting rooms, morning teas, and functions clubs groups etc. I will not name indivuals as I know I will miss someone which would not be right so thanks to all members who officiated in club functions
To new members welcome to our club again and I hope you will find in the coming years ahead a social club that fills your needs
To be a bit different to past years I will not be going over past events of the year as we cannot do anything about the past but I want to look into the future and to have as my talk to the theme of
Change as a quote from jkkennedy
Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.
John F. Kennedy
John F. Kennedy
We as a retired group do not or see change as a way of life like people in the workforce so it is easy to fall into a safe area of non-change i.e. life the same week by week and find community values changing in front of our eyes and can only reminisce on the way things were but I am sorry those past times have gone just as they did for our parents
So where I am heading in this talk
What can this social club do to assist in understanding this change in communities?
Just a few of my thoughts
There are new peoples and cultures daily entering our area we can sit back and do nothing or have them address us at our meetings on their side of entering our community
Challenge our governors i.e. councils. State and federal sitting /opposition members on issues that affect us it does not have to be political just a forum on issues that need to be raised in a QandA format
Health and social issues changing daily continue to have speakers informing us about changes tocentrelink/health reforms and what help is out there to assist us when we are in need
Service providers such as power /gas/telephone/internet I know there are people in our group who could inform us on the best deals etc. We need to tap into this information and passed on to all our members
Have banged on about walking the past year mainly as I feel this can help all of us lead a healthier life but should we look to health prevention as theme rather than what we can do after we get sick .guest speakers on diet, excercise etc. for retirees may be the best way to go
Finally the club
I am a great believer in that the committee needs to change regularly so that new ideas continually inject interest into our club This makes the club in its self change not always for the better but generally for every one bad idea 10 good ones will have lasting effect on the well being of the club
Work loads if shared by all makes life pleasent for all so do a bit it all helps as a quote from JFkennedy again
And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.

May I change this
My fellow probus members ask not what your club can do for you ,.ask what you can do for your club

President’s Report
Members,
This is just a short review and outlook of our clubs activities. Since the annual meeting in March this year that I felt it needed to be presented as Marie and myself will not be at the next four general meetings.
1. I wish to thank all the committee members who have given full support to me and invaluable advice on club matters
2. To the members who have made this period I hope a fun and a social event and who again have given me and the committee full support
3. The members that have organised trip and social events, by giving their time, created social interaction that improves the clubs health and wellbeing.
To new members and future members
From our constitution Aims and objectives (part b)
b. It will hold regular meetings and arrange activities to provide opportunities for fellowship, the development of acquaintance and social interaction.
It has been a busy year with new members being inducted at all meetings, please make yourselves know to members and become involved in our activities (as like all things in life you only get what you put back in).
And please older members make the effort to become known to our new members as you will both benefit from shared interests.
New activities and events
Walking
Just a small insert from the US federation of transport {full transcript I will post on the blog site}
“Regular exercise provides a myriad of health benefits for senior adults including a stronger heart, a positive mental outlook and an increased chance of remaining indefinitely independent
"Use it or lose it."
That's what doctors these days are telling senior citizens about their bodies.”
The walking group now has been running for several months on each Wednesday with numbers averaging about 10 per week I noticed the last couple of times that what took an hour to walk now only takes 45 minutes I think fitness creeps up on you and do not realise the improvement that happens over time. We walk distances that suit the individual some only half an hour others one hour just do what you are able. A nice social wind down at “macca,s” after for coffee completes the day
Blog Site
This is for the future as new and old members become computer savvy it will allow the club pass news on much quicker, attract new members who can access this site to see what we offer
This is a transition period and we must not forget that only 20% of our members have the web access so business as usual with getting the news out {newsletter etc. still posted out}
Trips
Traralgon Travellers
Otway’s
We only had 12 members at the Otway’s due to sickness etc. but we had great time all surprised by the country side and towns around this area
Oct2010
Goulburn trip with approximately 50 members booked for I know will be a great trip
Autumn2011
A trip being organised by Dan Smith for 5 days in the Daylesford area
Day tours
A great Mystery tour in May with a full bus load of members on a cold day in Traralgon but in the Glenmaggie/Maffra area sunny all day.
To all the other groups keep up the good work and members please join in areas that suit you interests
Serious bit
I know this is a bit early but as you know the year is flying by and the Annual general meeting will be on us before we know, but we need office bearers for next year and it is so much better to have nominations or expressions of interest straight after Xmas. The committee then can organise an orderly change over, a quick annual general meeting with a good social event to finish the year off so please think about it
It is not hard just rewarding to put new ideas forward to improve our social club
Finally
We are holidaying for a few months but you will have great stand in president in Bev Greenleaf who I know will do a great job . See you all at the Xmas function in December and thanks again for all your help

March 2010
As you’re newly elected President, this is my inaugural President’s! Message.
As I pondered what to say it occurred to me that since I didn't run on any particular platform, make any campaign promises or solicit your vote, I couldn't talk about those sorts of things. And besides, who needs to hear any of that rhetoric; there will be enough of that with the upcoming state and federal elections.
So I came to the conclusion that "less is best".
So here goes - first things first.
Thank you to everyone who did his or her part to make this past year a success! The only place that "success" comes before "work" is in the dictionary. That truth was clearly evident during the past year. - ,
Looking forward, I am optimistic that we will enjoy another fun filled and engaging year. Part of that future success should occur due to the continuity we will enjoy from existing committee members along with fresh ideas and approaches from new committee members.
Having said that, I firmly believe that the responsibility for ongoing success is a shared one.
It involves a partnership between the Membership and the Management Team. In this regard, the Management Team's role is two fold. ; We will endevour to offer a wide range of activities and speakers, which hopefully will appeal to the majority of you. Secondly, we will encourage an open, friendly and fiscally responsible environment in which to operate this social club.
For the Membership, your part is to take advantage of the many events offered and participate so that your Probus experience will be a rewarding one. We both welcome and need your ideas and feedback. This is your club ...help make it work.
Fun,Fellowship and friendship are the keys to a happy and active club. Take the opportunity to network with each other .
Finally be safe, stay well and keep smiling.
